Since the Retirement of Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey, Australia are finding it difficult to find an able replacement. They have produced many quality batsmen in the past. Lets take a look at our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time.

He is known for his aggressive style of play. He is the first and only batsman to have scored a century of sixes in test cricket. He holds the unique record of scoring at least 50 runs in successive World Cup finals. Gilchrist is renowned for walking when he considers himself to be out, sometimes contrary to the decision of the umpire. He formed a Lethal Partnership with Matthew Hayden in ODI’s and T20I’s.

He was declared the Man-of-the-Match in the 1987 World Cup final for his strokeful 75 runs. After his cricketing career, he was made the National selector of the Australian Cricket team. Hussey  was a relative latecomer to both the ODI and Test teams, debuting at 28 and 30 years of age in the respective formats with 15313 first-class runs before making his Test debut. He is a run machine who is virtually impossible to be distracted at the crease. He is known for his consistency in batting across all formats irrespective of the conditions. Thousands of cricketers made their debut and retired at some stage, but Mike Hussey had the privilege to be called as Mr. Cricket. After two years in the Test side his average rose to 86.18 and when he called it a day he averaged 51.52 in Tests, 48.15 in ODI’s and 38 in T20’s. No wonder he is called Mr. Cricket.

Despite being heavily built, Ponsford was quick on his feet and renowned as one of the finest ever players of spin bowling. His bat which was heavier than the norm allowed him to drive powerfully and he possessed a strong cut shot. He is in the elite list of batsmen scoring three triple hundreds in First Class Cricket. He along with Brian Lara were the only ones to score 400 Twice in their careers. His batting Average of 65.18 showed how good a player he was. AB has also led Australia to their First World Cup Victory in 1987.
