10. Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist occupies the tenth spot in our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time. Gilchrist, rather known for his Wicket-Keeping skills is a reliable batsman for Australia across all three formats. He bats at number 7 in tests and opens the batting in limited over formats. He is known for his aggressive style of play. He is the first and only batsman to have scored a century of sixes in test cricket. He holds the unique record of scoring at least 50 runs in successive World Cup finals. Gilchrist is renowned for walking when he considers himself to be out, sometimes contrary to the decision of the umpire. He formed a Lethal Partnership with Matthew Hayden in ODI’s and T20I’s.

9. David Boon

Batting Style : Right handed batsman

David Boon is one of the finest player for Australia in the Late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Boon’s durability was a vital ingredient in Australia’s resurgence as a cricketing power during his period. He was declared the Man-of-the-Match in the 1987 World Cup final for his strokeful 75 runs. After his cricketing career, he was made the National selector of the Australian Cricket team. David boon is given the ninth spot in our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time.

Mike Hussey occupies the eight spot in our list of Top 10 Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time. Hussey  was a relative latecomer to both the ODI and Test teams, debuting at 28 and 30 years of age in the respective formats with 15313 first-class runs before making his Test debut. He is a run machine who is virtually impossible to be distracted at the crease. He is known for his consistency in batting across all formats irrespective of the conditions. Thousands of cricketers made their debut and retired at some stage, but Mike Hussey had the privilege to be called as Mr. Cricket. After two years in the Test side his average rose to 86.18 and when he called it a day he averaged 51.52 in Tests, 48.15 in ODI’s and 38 in T20’s. No wonder he is called Mr. Cricket.

7. Bill Ponsford

Batting Style : Right Handed Batsman

Bill Ponsford was named in this elite club because of his First Class batting records rather than his test Records. Despite being heavily built, Ponsford was quick on his feet and renowned as one of the finest ever players of spin bowling. His bat which was heavier than the norm allowed him to drive powerfully and he possessed a strong cut shot. He is in the elite list of batsmen scoring three triple hundreds in First Class Cricket. He along with Brian Lara were the only ones to score 400 Twice in their careers. His batting Average of 65.18 showed how good a player he was. He is given the seventh spot in our list of top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time.

6. Steve Waugh

Batting Style : Right Handed Batsman

Legendary Aussie captain Steve Waugh is in the sixth position in our list of top ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time. He was one of the leading batsmen of his time. He is one of only 11 players to have scored over 10,000 Test runs. He made his debut for Australia as a Medium Pacer and went on to become one of the greatest batsman in the history of the game. Apart from his batting, Waugh is also is great captain. He was the one who held together the Aussie Batting Line Up. He retired from tests with a batting average of 51.06.

Greg Chappell was the outstanding Australian batsman of his generation. Though he had an appetite for big scores, it was his calm manner that bowlers found just as disheartening. He made a century in his first and final Tests. He used to often get the better of the Legendary West Indian Bowling Attack. He had a terrific test career in which he scored 7110 runs at an average of 53.86. His stint as a captain was not a successful one. Greg Chappell is the number five in out list of Top 10 Best Australian Batsmen of All Time.

4. Allan Border

Batting Style : Left Handed Batsman

Allan Border takes the Fourth spot in our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time. Border amassed 11,174 Test runs (a world record until it was passed by Brian Lara in 2005). He hit 27 centuries in his Test career. He retired as Australia’s most capped player and leading run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs. His Australian record for Test Match runs stood for 15 years before Ricky Ponting overtook him. Border still retains the world record for the number of consecutive Test appearances of 153. AB has also led Australia to their First World Cup Victory in 1987.

3. Victor Trumper

Batting Style : Right Handed Batsman

Of all the great Australian batsmen Victor Trumper was by general consent the best and most brilliant. He is known as the most stylish and versatile batsman of the Golden Age of cricket. Trumper at the zenith of his fame challenged comparison with Ranjit Singh ji. He was great under all conditions of weather and ground. He could play quite an orthodox game whenever he wished to. He occupies the third spot in our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time.

2. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is given the Second Spot in our list of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time. Ponting who is considered as the greatest batsman of his era along with Sachin and Lara. His total tally of 71 centuries is the second best only to Sachin’s 100 International Centuries. He is the second leading Run Scorer in Tests and ODI’s. He is a batsman who is capable of dominating any bowling attack irrespective of the conditions. Apart from his batting, he is a successful Captain, leading Australia to 2 successive Wins. He made the number 3 position of the Batting Line Up his own. Australia are struggling to find an able replacement for that position.

1. Sir Donald Bradman

Batting Style: Right Handed Batsman

Sir Donald Bradman is widely acknowledged as the greatest Test batsman of all time. Bradman’s career Test batting average of 99.94 is often cited as statistically the greatest achievement by any sportsman in any major sport. With just 4 runs needed off his final innings to take his Career average to 100, Bradman got out for a duck. Bradman made all those runs at high-speed in a manner that bewildered opponents and entranced spectators. Though his batting was not classically beautiful, it was always awesome. His record is at a distance of light years to be broken. No wonder he is given the Number one in our List of Top Ten Greatest Australian Batsmen of All Time.
